Hydro-Québec charged with violating environmental regulations in 2014 oil spill
Hydro-Québec has been charged with violating provincial environment regulations in connection with an oil spill on the Magdalen Islands in September last year.
More than 100,000 litres of diesel from the power utility's pipeline poured into the water near the Cap-aux-Meules harbour.
Hydro has been charged for allowing the spill to occur and for failing to notify the Environment Ministry about it immediately.
The public utility is facing a minimum fine of $42,000.
Hydro-Québec is not commenting for now. It has until mid-December to respond to the charges.
