Work on the first phase of the Water Grid Project in Palair segment envisaging piped water supply to seven mandals and Khammam Municipal Corporation is likely to gain pace in the coming weeks with the State government laying maximum emphasis on the speedy execution of the project in mission mode.
Under the Palair segment of the mega project, water will be sourced from Palair balancing reservoir in Kusumanchi mandal and supplied to 370 habitations spread in seven mandals under Palair, Khammam and Madhira Assembly constituencies, besides the Khammam Municipal Corporation.
Over 7 lakh people will be benefitted by the scheme under Palair segment of the ambitious flagship project of the TRS government. The first and second phases of the project envisages construction of an intake well, a 90 MLD capacity water treatment plant and three overhead balancing reservoirs, besides laying of 15.49 km main pipelines and 654 km secondary pipelines at an estimated cost of Rs. 578 crore. Preliminary work on the proposed water treatment plant at Jellacheruvu in Kusumanchi mandal is currently under way, sources said.
Work on the intake well at Palair reservoir is fast nearing completion, said Chinna Reddy, Superintending Engineer, Water Grid Project, Khammam. Pipelines measuring 7.8 km have already been laid, he said, adding that works on the first phase of the project under Palair segment will be completed by October next year. The survey pertaining to the second phase of the water grid scheme is under progress.
