Public services: govt. should rethink on increasing age limit

November 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST

The Government of Telangana should rethink on the increased age limit applicable for candidates appearing for public services. It was enough for the filling of technical posts like engineering. But for Group Services, people in their 40’s are likely to be inefficient and lazy when compared to the youngsters in 20’s. People in their early 20’s to early 30’s have the capability of learning and understanding that make them serve people better. Once they are above 35 of age, they will make their own mind and will not change their way of thinking whereas young candidates who are passionate about public services will work efficiently. Due to increase in age limit, the government itself is making its basic governance lazy in the newly-formed State. While UPSC is in a think-tank situation to reduce the existing age limit from 32, TSPSC should also rethink on the age limit and fix a maximum of mid-30’s for all the services.

No bus shelters

TSRTC buses, Hyderabad’s lifeline, is playing an important role in transporting people from one corner to the other corner. But there are no bus shelters at most of the bus stops, resulting in passengers waiting for buses in the sun or during showers. To cite an example, the Chaderghat bus stop at Malakpet does not have a bus shelter from where thousands of people commute every day. I request the concerned officials to look into the matter and provide bus shelters at all the bus stops for the benefit of the commuters.

Form a govt. authority to maintain lifts

This is with reference to the death of a girl student in Hyderabad due to poor maintenance of lifts in school. The authorities and media ended the issue by talking about schools being run illegally, without going into the root of the matter. But the real cause is poor maintenance of lifts that are either old or sub-standard.

In Mumbai, there is a government authority Inspector of Lifts, and it is mandatory for all lift owners to obtain fitness certificate periodically. Both Telugu States can emulate the same by forming a new authority or entrusting the job to the Fire Services Department.
