Make roads motorable, officials order Highways, Corporation

November 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Flood Monitoring Officer P. Senthilkumar and Collector M. Karunakaran have set a four-day deadline for Department of Highways and the Corporation to fill all potholes on important roads under their jurisdiction at least with gravel so as to make these dangerous stretches motorable.

As almost all roads being maintained by the Department of Highways and the Corporation are in the worst shape after the recent rains, Dr. Senthilkumar and Dr. Karunakaran ordered them at a review meeting at the Collectorate on Monday evening.

“Though all these badly damaged stretches will be re-laid after the monsoon, temporary measures should be immediately initiated,” the Monitoring Officer ordered.

When a senior official from the department expressed her inability in finding funds, Dr. Karunakaran instructed her to complete the work before this weekend. He also gave a similar direction to the Corporation in the presence of Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari.

“Be prepared to face the consequences, if you’re not able to comply with this deadline,” Dr. Karunakaran said. Superintendent of Police V. Vikraman, Sub-Collector, Cheranmahadevi V. Vishnu, Assistant Collector (Training) K.P. Karthikeyan, District Revenue Officer M.G. Kulandaivel, MLAs Nainar Nagenthran and S. Muthuselvi participated in the meeting.
