November 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - MADURAI:

All India Lawyers Union has condemned a decision taken by Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry (BCTP) on Tuesday to suspend without enquiry about 20 lawyers including those who had staged a protest demanding introduction of Tamil as the official language of the court.

In a press communiqué issued here on Wednesday, State general secretary of the union N. Muthu Amuthanathan expressed displeasure over Bar Council of India and the BCTP continuing to suspend lawyers from practising in courts even before holding an enquiry into charges against them.

“The AILU urges all democratic institutions in the State to express their dissent against such undemocratic activities of the Bar Councils,” the statement read.
