Deputy Commissioner Vipul Bansal has directed the Kalaburagi taluk tahsildar to recover Rs. 16,75,392 along with 10 per cent interest from the president of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society (HKES), running a chain of educational institutions including professional colleges.

The direction of the Deputy Commissioner follows the orders passed by the Assistant Labour Commissioner to recover the amount as land revenue recovery for non-payment of retirement benefits, including gratuity and leave encashment, to four retired employees of the HKES.

Mr. Bansal in his direction has asked the tahsildar to include the recovery amount in the current month’s Demand Collection Balance and initiate strict measures to recover the amount from the HKES president.

Employees benefit

The four retired employees — R.C. Kanta, S.R. Muthigi, Shivasharanappa S. Kaddargi, and S.V. Rangapure — after being denied their gratuity and other retirement benefits, approached the Labour Department seeking their intervention to get back the amount due to them legally. After a hearing, the Assistant Labour Commissioner directed the HKES to pay the amount to the retired employees.

When the HKES did not respond to the directions of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, the retired employees filed yet another application to recover the amount. The Assistant Labour Commissioner, after hearing the petitioner, passed an order asking the Revenue authorities to recover the dues from the HKES as land revenue dues and pay the retired employees.

As per the orders, Dr. Kanta would get a sum of Rs. 7.5 lakh along with 10 per cent interest, Dr. Muttigi a sum of Rs. 6,34,604 along with 10 per cent interest, Dr. Kaddargi a sum of Rs. 5,56,660 along with 10 per cent interest. and Mr. Sangapure a sum of Rs. 2,35,128 along with 10 per cent interest.
