Cow slaughterer has no right to live in country: Rawat
Terming those who slaughter cows as the country’s biggest enemies, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said they had “no right to live in the country”, triggering uproar.

“Anyone who kills cows, no matter which community he belongs to is India’s biggest enemy and has no right to live in the country,” Rawat said addressing a function on the occasion of Gopashtami late on Thursday night.

Law will deal sternly with those who kill cows in Uttarakhand and the state government will do everything for cow conservation, the CM said. He said the state government has already passed a proposal against cow slaughter.

However, the CM on Friday refuted media reports that attributed the controversial remarks to him.

“I am deeply hurt on reading such false and baseless news in the media. We have been talking of progressive thoughts all our life, on secularism and taking everyone along.” he said.

The CM asserted that he had said nothing on cow slaughter. “I spoke only about the incentives being given towards the conservation of cows and Ganga, and what the state government is doing to link cows with rural economy.”

“I am a responsible (Congress) party worker with connections and influence in all sections and I can never make such an irresponsible statement.” Agencies
