AIBA directive on elections in India

November 26, 2015 01:42 am | Updated 01:42 am IST - NEW DELHI:

In a significant development, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) has excluded Boxing India (BI) as the national federation and has sought application from new bodies to replace BI.

The AIBA president, Dr. C.K. Wu, has directed the ad-hoc committee, which is running the sport in the country, to conduct elections for a new national federation with cooperation from all stakeholders.

In less than two years, the AIBA has excluded two national federations from India due to internal wrangling. First, the international body terminated the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) on the ground of possible manipulation in its elections in December 2012.

The AIBA, which had invited applications from interested parties to replace IABF, recognised BI as the new National federation following its elections in September last year. — Special Correspondent
