NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has denied reports that it was contemplating to slap charges under
the National Security Act on the
juvenile accused in the
Nirbhaya case.
Some officers said it may not be allowed under the law. The reports were flashed by some TV channels through Wednesday, citing unidentified sources. The reports said a meeting was held a few days ago to discuss if there could be any provision under which the juvenile could be kept in further detention.
An IB officer had proposed this as an option but it was struck down as experts said it would be unlawful. Even the lawyers TOI spoke to said this would not sustain in the court of law. The juvenile could walk free within three weeks.
A top officer of Delhi Police said he was ignorant of any development and termed any such move as impractical.
