Daimler sells more than 30,000 BharatBenz trucks

November 26, 2015 01:29 am | Updated 01:29 am IST - CHENNAI:

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has sold more than 30,000 BharatBenz trucks in the domestic market and continues to add more export destinations after the German truck maker made India its global production hub. “Since its introduction in September 2012, BharatBenz has sold over 30,000 trucks. We will continue to strengthen our presence and expand into northern market,” said Sominder Singh, Vice President Domestic Sales, Product Management & Network. DICV, the Indian arm of Daimler AG, has seen 20 per cent growth in sales at 3,600 units during the September quarter. Though its sales grew, market share fell to 5.2 per cent from 6.2 per cent in an expanding truck market. “BharatBenz’s sales continue to grow. Since its volumes are quit small now when compared with Tata and Ashok Leyland, it is not right to compare in terms of market share. Moreover, when industry volumes expand, the impact will be seen only on big players,” said Nidhi Singh, Head, automotive practice, Autobei Consulting Group. Daimler has been exporting trucks under the Fuso brand to 21 countries and has now planned to increase market presence in 30 countries over the next two years.
