Founder general secretary of ULFA, Anup Chetia, is going to join the ongoing tripartite peace talks and even lead it at the final stages if he is released from jail, said the pro-talk faction of the militant organisation on Wednesday.

This declaration comes on the day when Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in a statement claimed that his government will clear the deck for Chetia possible release from jail.“It has been a historic meeting after 18 long years. The central executives of ULFA on Wednesday met its founder general secretary Anup Chetia briefly at the Guwahati central jail. He was very emotional to all of us after such a long time. We are also very emotive. We did discuss the peace process. We have given him the copy of the charter of demand. He has extended full support to the peace process ,” said Arabinda Rajkhowa, chairman of pro-talk faction of the ULFA.
