Independent MLA from Langate Abdul Rashid Sheikh, alias Engineer Rashid, faced a hostile crowd in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district today for holding a beef party in Srinagar last month. Some miscreants smashed a windowpane of his vehicle.

According to reports, the incident took place this afternoon in the Domale area, about 3 km from the sub-district headquarters of Bhaderwah, when Rashid was on his way to Doda to address a public gathering.

About two dozen youth showed him black flags and raised slogans against him. They also smashed the windowpane of his vehicle and tried to manhandle him.

Rashid was roughed up by some BJP MLAs during the Autumn session of the legislature in Srinagar over the beef party. He also faced an ink attack in Delhi last month over the issue.

Some people held a protest in Doda town today against the MLA and disallowed him from entering into the city for about half an hour. However, his supporters helped him reach the venue — Town Hall in Doda.

Sub-District Police Officer (SDPO), Bhaderwah, Sajjad Ahmed Khan said: “MLA Engineer Rashid is completely safe. However, a windowpane of his vehicle was smashed by some miscreants and they even tried to throw ink on him but we have safely rescued him.” “We have registered an FIR against those who tried to attack Engineer Rashid and investigation in the case has been initiated,” the SDPO added.

Meanwhile, MLA Rashid said: “RSS activists crossed all limits of decency today.”

“They abused us, tried to throw ink on me and my vehicle was smashed. They injured me and my Public Relations Officer Inam,” the legislator said.
