Gunner of high court judge shot

A police constable posted as gunner of a high court judge was shot at on Wednesday. The incident took place around 9pm at Jugaoli railway crossing under Gomtinagar police station. Bike-borne assailants fired three gunshots and robbed the constable’s pistol before escaping.

LUCKNOW: A police constable posted as gunner of a high court judge was shot at on Wednesday. The incident took place around 9pm at Jugaoli railway crossing under Gomtinagar police station. Bike-borne assailants fired three gunshots and robbed the constable’s pistol before escaping.
A native of Deoria district, Pramod Kumar Saxena (30) has been serving as the security personnel of a high court judge.
After the shift, Saxena was on his way to his home near Munshipulia on his motorcycle form the judge’s house in Gautampalli. Pramod had crossed Vishwas Khand to reach the railway crossing while assailants were following him, said additional superintendent of trans-Gomti police Jay Prakash.
Pramod was waiting at the crossing as a train was passing. The assailant walked up to him and fired a gunshot in his neck from behind and robbed the pistol tucked on Pramod’s belt.
As the assailants tried to escape local residents blocked their way but the duo fired several rounds in the air and managed to escape. Senior officials including IG zone, DIG range and SSP visited the crime scene. Pramod was rushed to Lohia hospital but doctors referred him to KGMU’s trauma centre. His condition was serious till last reports came in.
