Meru Catholic Bishop Salesio Mugambi has urged Kenyans to put aside their religious and political differences during and after Pope Francis’ visit.
He termed the Pope’s visit to the country as a special occasion and a blessing which will unite Kenyans.
Speaking on Wednesday at St Joseph Cathedral in Meru, Bishop Salesio Mugambi said the visit should be used to preach peace and love.
“We hope the visit will help Kenyans to come together to preach the gospel despite their religion,” said bishop Mugambi.
2,000 FAITHFULS
More than 2,000 faithfuls from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties are expected in Nairobi to welcome the pope.
The bishop added that most of those traveling to Nairobi are youths from the 65 parishes forming the see.
“Each parish will produce at least a bus to ferry the group. According to the parish councils and priests who are preparing the lists, youths are the majority of about 1,200 believers,” said the Bishop.
He however, said the figure was increasing each day and could add up to 3,000 congregants from the diocese since many more were registering.
