Wayne Rooney wanted by Chinese Super League while door closes on potential Ronaldo return to Old Trafford

According to the Sun, approaches have been made to tempt the United and England captain to finish his career in China.

Rooney has three years left on his current deal at Old Trafford but the CSL want to sign a footballing superstar in the hope that others will follow suit.

It might not surprise you to know that former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is already working in China as boss of Shanghai.

While a move is not yet on the cards, the story suggests that Rooney's advisors are considering all options ahead of his next move in football.

All the stops are being pulled out by the CSL to make the game a huge success in China, with even the Chinese government making a serious effort to raise the game's profile.

They have helped attract some well-known faces to Asia, with former Manchester City striker Robinho being the most high profile.

Meanwhile at Old Trafford, the door appears to have been shut on Cristiano Ronaldo rejoining United.

Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes said of the Portuguese leaving the Bernabeu: "It is impossible. He will end his career at Real Madrid."

Ronaldo left United six years ago but reports in Spain suggest all is not well between player and club - especially with manager Rafa Benitez.

The fans have even started getting on the current holder of the Ballon d'Or's back following Real's 4-0 humiliation in El Clasico when they jeered and taunted the star.

United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed his desire to bring the 30-year-old back to England while PSG are also keen to sign the player.

His superagent, however, has said both outcomes are "impossible".
