Travellers — and those stuck in office cubicles — will have a sunny and fair day Wednesday to accompany them in Greater Boston, according to the National Weather Service. The clear skies will be around for a majority of the holiday.

Temperatures plummeted below freezing across the region overnight Tuesday, but are expected to reach the mid- 40s Wednesday, said weather service meteorologist Kim Buttrick. Wednesday will be accompanied by blue skies as many set out for their Thanksgiving destination, the weather service said.

Thursday will start out chilly in the early hours, but the air will quickly warm to a crisp but pleasant autumn day.

“Thanksgiving morning we’re looking at lows region-wide in the upper 20s to mid- 30s,” Buttrick said

As temperatures rocket into the mid- 50s, fans at high school football games will be able to leave a sweater or two at home while they enjoy partially sunny skies.

Daytime highs on Friday will jump to the upper 50s and low 60s statewide, but temperatures will drop back down to seasonable levels shortly after.

“Come the weekend it will slightly cool back down,” Buttrick said. Temperatures will be in the upper 40s Saturday and Sunday, Buttrick said.

There is a 30 percent chance of showers late Friday night into early Saturday. The weekend will otherwise be mild and sunny for those heading back home.
