    Deluxe Monark

Anthemic pop rockers Monark recently released a deluxe version of debut album 'Negatives'. We chatted to drummer Graeme Wuth to find out more.

Why the decision to release a deluxe addition of 'Negatives' with additional songs, as opposed to an EP?

We released 'Negatives' when Monark was just starting out. We did things backwards in that we hadn't toured much and got in touch with fans. So, a year later, we feel there are still some legs in 'Negatives', but we don't want to keep fans who have been with us from the beginning waiting too long for more music, and releasing a couple of new singles with the album will give those who missed to first few a chance to get on board with the first album.

When can fans expect album number two?

Times are changing and we're not sure that releasing full-length albums every two years or so is the way to go anymore. We still want to tour 'Negatives' for a bit, but we never stop writing songs, so a second album or something along those lines in the next year or so is definitely a possibility.

Looks like the festival circuit has been treating you guys well this year. What are some of your favourite festivals to play and why?

Yip, we've had a great time playing SA's festivals this year. Some that stand out are Rocking the Daisies, Durban Day, Kday, and Splashy Fen. They all stand out because everyone in the crowd had a great party with us, showed us love, made us welcome and sang their hearts out.

If the album could be described as a meal what would it be and why?

Seared tuna fillet with fresh veggies, and some of that soy-type sauce. Because I all of a sudden really feel like that. I had it a couple times from Koi and it was amazing. Also, the album has some meaty content, but it's not heavy. Maybe a little sophisticated.

What have been some of your personal and musical highlights from 2015?

Being nominated for three SAMAs was a big moment for us. Hearing our songs climb the charts, especially the success of Hush. And feeling the love from fans around the country.

    What's next for Monark?

We're really excited about our December tour. We're going to put in a lot of effort into our live performances, and getting to sing along with as many people around SA and abroad. And we will continue to strive for bigger things.
