CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- A name is not only a code name, but also a kind of inheritance and a period of history. All people say Chongqing-ers only know south and north, but don't know east and west. South and north frequently appear in place names in Chongqing such as Ba'nan (south) and Yubei (north), but east and west do not. Then, as a Chongqing-er, do you know the origins and meanings of the nine main urban districts of Chongqing? Just let me tell you.
Yuzhong District
Yuzhong is the centre of Yuzhou (Chongqing in ancient times), and Chongqing is called "Yu" for short. Yuzhong District got its name for its location in the centre of Chongqing's main urban districts. In 1995, it was renamed as Yuzhong District from Shizhong District.
Yubei District
Yubei, the north of Yuzhou City, got its name for its location in the north of Chongqing's urban area. In 1994, it was renamed as Yubei District from Jiangbei County.
