Dubai expat returns home to India to find wife, kids dead

An Indian expat in Dubai was shocked to receive a call early this week saying his wife was dead. He flew home to India only to find his two little daughters also dead.

In fact, six members of two families – including three children - were found dead on Sunday in the South India state of Kerala.

Arun Kumar’s wife Archana, 30, was found hanging from the roof, while his kids – Anu, 9, and Emi, 5, - were found dead in the bed. According to police officials, the kids were allegedly poisoned by Archana before she ended her own life after leaving a suicide note.

Local reports suggest Archana – a housewife who was politically active - was facing financial crunch. Meanwhile, Indian community members here allege that she would call her husband asking him for money and have previosuly threatened to kill herself and their daughters.

On the same day, in their neighbouring house a couple and their toddler son was found dead. While, Ratheesh, 28, and Sharanya, 22, were found hanging, their son Yadu Krishna, 2, was found dead on the bed, according to police, who found a suicide note from that house, too.

Ratheesh was also active in local politics.

Reports suggest both the families knew each other closely. But it’s not sure what drove them to take this extreme step and if there is a connection between the suicides in both houses.
