State will act against traders not selling dal at Rs100/kg

Dal price rise issue has been in the news for over two months now and Congress has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been serving the interest of traders by putting the common man in trouble.

The state cabinet on Tuesday decided to release the seized tur dal by taking an indemnity bond from traders and to file criminal cases against traders who would not sell the dal at the rate of Rs100 per kg.

In its meeting, the state cabinet discussed the dal price rise issue threadbare and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis took serious note of the letter written by minister for food and civil supplies Girish Bapat to the department secretary Dr Deepak Kapoor. Chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya also spoke to Kapoor in another meeting, which was held after the cabinet meeting.

The cabinet also decided to sell the dal stock of the traders who would not agree to submit indemnity bond and sell at Rs100 per kg. The government resolution (GR) in this regard will be issued soon, based on the cabinet decision. This is the fourth time that the dal price rise issue has been discussed in the state cabinet. Interestingly, last week Bapat was not present for the cabinet meeting, since he had to be in Pune for vice-president Hamid Ansari's program. Bapat is the guardian minister for Pune.

Congress leader of opposition in the state assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, had sent dal packets as Diwali gift to the entire cabinet.

Swachha Maharashtra Fund
The state cabinet also gave its nod to set up a Swachha Maharashtra Fund, which will be used to implement various schemes under the Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan. The Union government has created the Swachha Bharat Fund by pulling the resources through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of various organisations.

Autonomy to Maharashtra Police Academy
The state cabinet has given its nod for autonomy to the Maharashtra Police Academy on the lines of Yashwantrao Chavan Academy for Development Administration (Yashada), which conducts various training programs for the IAS officers in the state. The cabinet also sanctioned Rs5 crore for the provision of salaries and perks of Maharashtra Police Academy officers.
