Jake Friend would be bemused by Robbie Farah Roosters talk, says Sterlo

EELS legend Peter Sterling says Roosters hooker Jake Friend would be ‘bemused’ by talk unwanted Tigers dummy half Robbie Farah could be heading to Bondi.

Farah has been linked with a number of sides since Tigers coach Jason Taylor revealed the NSW hooker doesn’t fit into his future plans at the young club.

The Roosters are shaping-up as the frontrunners to snare the 31-year old after it was reported on Sunday the tricolours had discussed a base-salary deal with worth $100,000.

But Sterling said current Roosters no.9 and future Maroons star Jake Friend would be ‘bemused’ by any talk linking Farah to Bondi.

“If I’m Jake Friend I’d be bemused. Which would probably be the softest emotion you would feel”, he told Triple M.

“He’s an 80 minute player. He’s about to be a State of Origin player in a couple of years down the track. You do not buy Robbie Farah to play him in reserve grade.

“Now I have no idea how that would work. Obviously Friend is a co-captain there so he’s held in very high esteem, he’s had a couple of fantastic seasons.”

Sterling also said the Roosters would struggle to fit both Farah and Friend into their current game plan but it was easy to see the appeal of signing a first-class hooker at a bargain price.

“I don’t quite see a good fit there but obviously Trent Robinson is very astute in his recruiting and it wouldn’t be done on a whim”, he said.

“You don’t buy Robbie Farah ... to play at the back of the scrum or any other position. He’s a specialist hooker dummy half. I don’t quite get it,” Sterling said.

“What I do get is that Robbie Farah would be very attractive to any number of clubs if you can get him at a bargain based price but then it’s what you do with him.”

There has also been speculation Farah is on the radar of the Dragons but like with the Roosters, the sticking point in talks has been how much rival clubs are willing to pay for his services with interested parties trying to low-ball the Tigers in contract talks.
