38th annual food drive

It is time to stock the shelves of food banks in Vernon, Enderby and Armstrong.

Vernon and area realtors will be going door-to-door collecting for the 38th annual food drive on Wednesday, Dec. 2, starting at 5 p.m.

Residents in Vernon and Coldstream are being asked to donate non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army food bank.

Realtors will also be collecting in Enderby and Armstrong for their community food banks on the same evening.

Contributions go toward Christmas hampers and stock the shelves into the New Year.

“As we are all aware, the need is great,” said Dawn Taylor, food drive co-ordinator.

In many neighbourhoods, grocery bags with notes asking for a food donation will be tied to door handles the day before so that people can be prepared before the collection night.

if homes are missed during the food drive, residents are asked to call any local real estate office so someone can pick up the donation.

Volunteers from local financial institutions and the North Okanagan branch of Early Childhood Educators are helping pick up the donated food.

Although Lumby has a separate food bank drive, anyone may drop food donations off at one of the local real estate offices.
