Divisional Railway Manager Sunil Kumar Garg presented Rail Safety Awards to two employees in recognition of their timely alerts for averting train accidents, on Tuesday.

Madurai loco pilot S. Vijayaraghavalu was awarded the Division’s “Man of the Month” Award (safety) in appreciation of his alertness, diligence and dedication.

While working Train No.16610 Coimbatore-Tuticorin Express between Kalligudi and Virudhunagar, he suspected a problem on the track after hearing unusual sound at 3 a.m. on July 7 and immediately informed the Station Master, Virudhunagar.

On inspection, it was found that there was a weld failure in the track. This timely detection and subsequent action averted an accident as another express train was following closely.

Safety award

Similarly, Trackmaintener, Tirumangalam, Muthuganesan, was given a safety award for his timely action in detecting a train-parting in a freight train on August 23 while performing his duty at the level crossing gate near Tirumangalam Railway Station.
