Journalists from Hangu and Orakzai Agency protested against the murder of television reporter Hafeezur Rehman who was killed in Kohat earlier in November. They reiterated demands that the government should arrest the culprits and award them exemplary punishment.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday, members of the media from Orakzai Agency and Hangu district participated in the protest which was led by Orakzai Press Club president, Salehdin Orakzai.

Speakers at the protest said the police and district administration remain clueless about the killing of journalists. They said this spoke volumes about their failure.

Protesters said journalists were not safe and the government should nab the culprits and punish them in accordance with the law. They said around 50 journalists had been killed in various parts of the country so far, but the killers were never arrested. The irate media men demanded that the government take effective measures for their security so such incidents could be averted
in future.

Journalists also reiterated threats to hold countrywide protests if the government remained unsuccessful in getting Rehman justice.  The government was asked to provide financial assistance to the family of
the slain reporter.
