Stalin demands White Paper

November 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated November 26, 2015 12:45 pm IST - CHENNAI:

DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Tuesday demanded a White Paper from the State government on the funds spent so far for flood relief.

Handing over a cheque of Rs 1 crore to the State Finance Secretary K. Shanmugam at the Secretariat, Mr. Stalin said the government had delayed in taking the cheque.

Only after the DMK president issued a statement and after he contacted the Chief Secretary over mobile, the situation changed.

“On Monday evening, the Chief Secretary’s office informed us to hand over the cheque to the Finance Secretary,” he told reporters. As he was reluctant to politicise the issue, Mr. Stalin said he handed over the cheque duly.

To ensure that the relief benefitted the people, he asked the government to constitute an all-party team to oversee and monitor distribution of flood relief.
