Last year: Jordan Spieth finished with an 8-under 63 for a six-stroke victory. He became the first American winner since Brad Faxon in 1993.

Last week: Peter Senior won the Australian Masters at Huntingdale at a record age of 56. He also won in 1991 and 1995.

Notes: The top-ranked Spieth is in the field along Lee Westwood and Australian star Adam Scott. Spieth won the Masters and U.S. Open, led the PGA Tour with five victories, took the FedEx Cup and was selected the player of the year. The 22-year-old Texan made a tour-record $12,030,465, earned a $10 million bonus for the FedEx Cup and won the Vardon Trophy for lowest adjusted scoring average. … Senior won at The Lakes in 2012 to become the oldest winner in event history at 53. … American amateur Bryson DeChambeau is coming off a second-place tie at Huntingdale. The former SMU player won the U.S. Amateur and NCAA this year. … Gary Player won a record seven times, one more than Jack Nicklaus. … The Australian PGA is next week at Royal Pines in Gold Coast.
