British aviator Tracey Curtis Taylor will be honoured by the Indian Air Force on Tuesday with a fly past in Hindon.
Taylor, a renowned adventurer and pilot, is currently in India as part of her journey from the United Kingdom to Australia in a biplane, which is being done in honour of Amy Johnson, whose epic solo flight to Australia in 1930 stunned the world.
The journey is also meant to commemorate the pioneering aviators of the 1920s and 30s who laid down the foundations for modern air travel as we know it, including Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart, the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932.
Taylor’s journey aims to recreate the experience of Johnson for aviation enthusiasts, with a basic cockpit, stick and rudder controls along with basic period instruments for navigation. She is also being accompanied by a small support team which is documenting her adventures through three continents.
This is not the first time Taylor has flown in the footsteps of her predecessors; the Canadian-raised pilot shot to global fame in 2013 when she recreated Lady Mary Heath’s solo flight from Cape Town to the UK.
