Opel to end sponsorship deal with Feyenoord next season

kuip feyenoordGerman car maker Opel is ending its sponsorship deal with Rotterdam football club Feyenoord at the end of next season.

‘Opel has said it will not be renewing its contract 18 months before the expiry date,’ the club said in a website statement. The decision relates to ‘Opel’s international strategy,’ Feyenoord said.

Opel was Feyenoord’s main sponsor from 1984 to 1989 and then again from 2013. It also supplied cars and was involved in other partnerships with the club.

Earlier this year, Philips said it would stop PSV’s shirt sponsorship after 34 years. Ziggo took over as Ajax’s main sponsor this January, after Aegon decided to end its relationship with the club.
