Beaming Galway granny joins in Sarsfields county celebrations with her six grandsons

Sarsfields' seventh county success was a proud day for everyone associated with the Galway club and in particular for one proud grandmother.

The reigning champions had two points to spare in the county final replay, dashing Carghwell's bid for a first senior title since 1931, and yet again it was backboned by the Cooney family.

In the 1990s, Joe Cooney and his brothers inspired the club to successive All-Ireland titles and it was his son Joseph who captained yesterday's victorious team, one of six family members involved on the day.

Younger brother Kevin hit two crucial points after his introduction and youngest sibling Tomás was the team's mascot.

On a memorable day for the Cooney household, the six grandsons brought a special present to their granny, with Galway TD Ciaran Cannon tweeting the heart-warming picture of the family.

The victory was their seventh county success since their maiden victory in 1980 and will hope to emulate the club's previous success by retaining their All-Ireland crown.
