City-based BAIF Development Research Foundation has received a grant of $43,300 (approximately Rs 28.73 lakh) from the UPS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of logistics firm UPS, to undertake water and soil conservation works at Randullabad village in Satara.

PUNE: City-based BAIF Development Research Foundation has received a grant of $43,300 (approximately Rs 28.73 lakh) from the UPS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of logistics firm UPS, to undertake water and soil conservation works at Randullabad village in Satara.
A statement issued by the BAIF said, "Randullabad is a drought-affected village which falls in the rain shadow area of the Sahyadri ranges.
There is an urgent need to renovate and restore existing structures to create significant additional rainwater storage capacities here. The funds extended by the UPS Foundation will be used to conserve runoff water and recharge groundwater storage effectively."
Some of the major activities of the project would include recharging of groundwater storage by desilting of nallah bunds and construction of check dam. "The grant will help the residents of Randullabad in better soil conservation, water availability and economic growth," said G G Sohani, president and managing trustee of BAIF.
