Sreejith Guruvayur is one of the better-known names in the art of make-up in Malayalam cinema today. He has been around for more than 15 years and has worked in films like Traffic , Neelathamara (2009), Passenger and Diamond Necklace.

After doing make-up for all these years, he decided to make a film himself recently. The short film, titled Innings , was released on Youtube a few days ago.

“I have been thinking about directing a short film for quite some time and wanted to do something that could also have a message,” says Sreejith. “That is how I came up with the idea of Innings .”

The eight-and-a-half film is about how social media, like Whatsapp, can be used for positive things, rather than just chatting up with friends or sharing pictures.

“In the film, players of a small-time cricket club come together to save the life of an accident victim,” he says. “I play cricket myself, being a member of Muthuvattoor Cricket Club, Guruvayur.”

The film’s background music is scored by Bijibal. Director Lal Jose makes an appearance.

“Lal Jose told me that he had an experience like the one I showed in the film,” says Sreejith. “I was delighted when he told me that he liked the film.”
