Orvakal area on path to progress

The proposed unit to be established on nearly 3,000 acres

Anantapur: Orvakal area, where an industrial centre and airport was proposed will give a facelift to Kurnool district. Plenty of government land available at Orv-akal, closer to Kurnool, has impressed the government to choose it for all possible development in the district. Orvakal is located at about 23 km from Kurnool with clear road access.

A missile research laboratory by Defence Research and Development Organisation will soon be set up at Orvakal. The proposed unit to be established on nearly 3,000 acres would offer employment to about 4,000 people, official sources said. The government has set aside large stretches of land near Orvakal for industrial use.

The Centre had cleared necessary sanctions for a green field airport at Orvakal. The district administration has begun land acquisition process at Orvakal.

The DRDA's proposal to set up a Rs 10,000 crore product development and assembling unit near Orvakal received a major boost with the state Cabinet allocating 2,200 acre for it on Wednesday.

“Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was keen that all past promises made to people of Kurnool would be fulfilled. The progress of Orvakal is an indicator for development,” party leader Somisetty Venk-ateshwarlu observed.

Further district administration hoped for a positive response from the investors to set up units at Kurnool, official sources said.
