Folk artiste Kovan seeks anticipatory bail

November 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - MADURAI:

Folk artiste Kovan alias Sivadas has filed two anticipatory bail applications in the Madras High Court Bench here in cases filed against him for having allegedly instigated tribals in Kodaikanal to indulge in an armed struggle against the State Government, opposing its plans to establish a Wildlife Sanctuary, during two meetings addressed by him on November 18 and 19.

Mr. Sivadas has been in the news ever since he was arrested on charges on sedition on October 31 after songs penned and sung by him against State-run liquor shops went viral on the social media.

He was released on bail on November 16 and a petition moved by the State challenging High Court’s refusal to send him to police custody, for interrogation, is still pending before the Supreme Court.
