The Union government should not hurry while framing the New Education Policy (NEP) but take a decision only after thorough consultations with experts in the field of education, and social scientists, Talaha Ismail, member of State Advisory Council of the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), has said.
Mr. Ismail and K.M. Ashraf, secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Karnataka zone, said here on Monday that the Centre had drafted an education policy way back in 1986 and revised it in 1992. The present government decided to formulate the NEP in December last year, without adequately eliciting the views of experts. They alleged that the government handed out an objective type questionnaire with possible answers that suited it best. “This is not the way to implement a policy matter such as education which not only impacts every individual but also influences the growth and progress of the nation.” It is not too late and the government could still seek views of the experts before finalising the NEP in the best interest of all sections of society, they said.
