An elderly construction worker has received his pension following the intervention of the State Human Rights Commission.

Ramanujan Pillai of Chariparamba Vilayil Veetil was denied pension after he failed to submit his bank account number and pass book in time to the Kerala Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

Mr. Ramanujan Pillai who was a member of the welfare board was allowed pension after he paid his share in time. He got the first instalment of Rs.6,900 in August 2013, but none after that. The authorities were informed but in vain.

Notice sent

On receiving a complaint from Mr. Ramanujan Pillai, commission chairperson J.B. Koshy sent a notice to the welfare board secretary.

The pension is sent to the bank account, the secretary informed. The pension was not given as the complainant had not submitted his pass book and IFSC code to the welfare board office, the explanation said.

After the commission ordered that the pension be allowed, it was paid along with the arrears to Mr. Ramanujan Pillai.
