Information Technology Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy on Monday laid the foundation stone for the river front development of Chitravati river at Puttaparthi.

Speaking after unveiling a pylon, Mr. Reddy, who was accompanied by Civil Supplies Minister Paritala Sunita, said the government had granted Rs. 3 crore for the development of the Chitravati river front and another Rs. 3 crore for a light and sound show facility at the Hill View Stadium here.

“The river front here will be better than Tank Bund in Hyderabad. We will erect statues of important persons here. The facility will have sprawling lawns, gardens, food court and entertainment facilities. We will also introduce ‘Sai Baba Nadi Harati’,” Mr. Reddy said.

Tourist destination

Highlighting the efforts made by the government for the development of Puttaparthi town into a tourist destination, he said the government planned to make Puttaparthi the focal point of a religious tourism circuit comprising significant temples in the district. “Not only is the government planning to make Puttaparthi a tourist destination, it also intends to make use of the Puttaparthi airport in a suitable manner to cater to the operational and maintenance necessities of airlines and thereby create jobs and prosperity in Anantapur district,” he added.
