5-month-old girl dies as SUV rams bus, 8 injured

CHENNAI: A five-month-old girl died and eight others were injured when an SUV in which they were travelling rammed an omni-bus in Chengalpet on Monday. Police said the accident occured when the group of nine people were returning home after attending their relative's engagement held in Virudhu Nagar on Sunday.
The deceased, who was Mubina, was sitting on the lap of her uncle on the front seat.A Mariappan, 27, the father of Mubina, was behind the wheel.
The injured were identified as Muthusamy, Gautham, Udhaya, Padmanaban, Ramaselvam, Kasturi and Velan. They were admitted to the government hospital in Chengalpet. The condition of the injured is stable now, police said quoting the hospital authorities.
Mubina's body has been sent to the government hospital in Chengalpet for autopsy. The Chengalpet police registered a case under the Section 304 (A) (death caused due to negligence) and launched a hunt for the bus driver. Police said the accident happened around 8am in the full view of public.
