Victoria Pendleton to make her Point

Victoria Pendleton could have her first ride in a point-to-point at either Cottenham or Black Forest Lodge on Sunday.

The Olympic cycling star announced earlier this year she was targeting a ride in the Foxhunters' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival next March as part of her 'Switching Saddles' challenge with Betfair.

Having spent the summer working with trainer Lawney Hill and her husband Alan, a leading figure in the point-to-point world, Pendleton has ridden in three amateur Flat events - going close to winning at Ripon - but has now turned her attention to racing over obstacles.

Pendleton will probably ride either Sedgemoor Express and According To Sarah, who are now in the care of Alan Hill and will race in the colours of the Betfair Racing Club.

"That's the next step she's going to take," said Lawney Hill.

"The horses she is going to ride are going to be entered this weekend, but we're not sure exactly where she's going to ride or what's going to run yet.

"There's a meeting at Cottenham near Cambridge and one at Black Forest Lodge which is near Exeter.

"There will be horses entered at both meetings for her to ride. We'll decide nearer the time which meeting she's going to go to.

"What Victoria is doing is a massive challenge, but she's very up for it, which is fantastic."
