Gehlot adds voice to Bhagwat's proposal to pave way for Ram temple construction
BHOPAL: Adding voice to the renewed clamour over construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, BJP’s senior leader and union minister Thawar Chand Gehlot has said that party is firm over its commitment to built Ram mandir after removing all hurdles. A day before, RSS supremo Mohan Bhagwat at a condolence meet for VHP patron Ashok Singhal pushed for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya saying there should be serious attempts to accomplish Singhal’s dream.
That would be a true tribute to him, he had said.
Gehlot wittingly seconded the thought. ``Singhal dedicated his entire life for Hindutva and spearheaded the Ram Janmbhoomi movement. It’s our duty to accomplish his resolve’’, Gehlot told TOI. He said Ram temple was built in Ayodhya by Hindu followers. In between, Moughal rulers tried to proclaim it as Babri Masjid but it was a temple and will always be.
``All supporting organizations had decided to accomplish the resolve of Singhal and we are firm over the commitment. In Ayodhya, construction of Ram temple work is underway as stones are being carved in the premises’’, claimed Gehlot. The union minister, however, denied any time frame for building the temple adding, deliberate efforts are underway. ``We are hopeful of a clear mandate over this so that all hurdles are removed and way to the construction of temple is cleared’’, he said.
Gehlot’s statement came amid party’s recent drubbing in Bihar assembly elections, where reservation became main poll plank and BJP had no time to clear it’s stand except bite the dust. Gehlot recalled 1991 general elections when a similar alliance led by the then Janata Dal leader V P Singh raked up reservation issue and took over the reigns as Prime Minister. BJP played Ram temple issue carefully and increased their seats in Lok Sabha from 2 to 85.
Gehlot said, ``It seems to be the same style as the grand alliance is playing on reservation issue to pose threat to BJP in U.P. elections slated for 2017’’. In fact BJP is not against reservation and in no way discontinue it when in power. It will continue to support the reservation in the interest of backward class, he clarified. ``But no it seems that people are clear about BJP’s stand and till U.P. elections come, game plan of unholy grand alliance will be exposed’’, said Gehlot.
He also raised queries over stability among partners in the grand alliance saying in long run stability of the Managathbandhan will always be under doubt.
