Batman: Arkham Knight Devs Cancel Support For NVIDIA SLI, AMD CrossFire GPU Configs

The developers at Rocksteady Studios have given up on fixing multi-GPU support in Batman: Arkham Knight. Publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (just WB from here on out) confirmed that was the case when addressing a gamer's question on Steam's community forums.

At this point in game's development -- post release for a second time -- cleaning up the code to improve the experience for gamers running SLI and Crossfire configurations is proving too much work for too little payoff. Continuing to develop for mulit-GPU setups could also introduce more problems for all players, and that's not something WB is keen on doing.

"We’ve been working with our development and graphics driver partners over the last few months to investigate utilizing multi-GPU support within Batman: Arkham Knight. The result was that even the best case estimates for performance improvements turned out to be relatively small given the high risk of creating new issues for all players," a developer for WB said. "As a result we’ve had to make the difficult decision to stop work on further multi-GPU support. We are disappointed that this was not practical and apologize to those who have been waiting for this feature."

Batman: Arkham Knight released to PC with a litany of issues back in June. Following its initial launch, there were widespread complaints of dropped frame rates and graphical bugs, which prompted WB to temporarily stop sales of the game on Steam and in stores (the console version was unaffected).

It took the developers four months to stomp out many of the bugs that plagued the game resulting in a late October relaunch. Many users saw a notable improvement in performance, though Rocksteady and WB weren't able to fix the game across board, so PC gamers were offered an optional refund.
