Singapore-based KrisEnergy has received approval from the government to begin production at Rossukon production area located in the Gulf of Thailand.

Thailand’s governmental agency Department of Mineral Fuels (DMF) has approved the company’s production area application (PAA) submitted in June for an area covering 87.74km² .

The Rossukon discoveries are located in the G6/48 licence over the Karawake Basin to the north of the G10/48 licence.

During the first half of 2015 , the company carried out drilling on two exploration wells as well as two intentional sidetrack wells in the Rossukon area and each of them encountered oil and gas.

"The approval of the Rossukon PAA is a step closer to getting our fifth field into development."

The company also owns the nearby Wassana oil field on the G10/48 licence, which commenced production in August .

KrisEnergy exploration and production director Chris Gibson-Robinson said: "We have six licences in the Gulf of Thailand, four of which are now in production following the start-up of the Wassana and Nong Yao fields this year.

"The approval of the Rossukon PAA is a step closer to getting our fifth field into development and production in the near-term and underpins our strategy to make the Gulf of Thailand a core area in the KrisEnergy portfolio."

In the Gulf of Thailand, the company has assets including the non-operated producing B8/32, B9A and G11/48 contract areas in addition to the G10/48, and G6/48 licences.
