BENGALURU: India football captain Sunil Chhetri on Monday called on fellow players to join the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) stressing on the importance for them to stand united.
"I'm reaching out to all players, asking you to sit back and think about how important it is for the coming together of all of us if we are to change things for all players. We are going to have to stand up for each other and have each other's backs and this will only happen if we all decide to take that step forward together," Chhetri said in a post on twitter after a recent meeting with FPAI's top officials.

"The FPAI who already handle many issues for players in India have dedicated staff who can deal with most player issues, grievances or suggestions. We will make sure every call, message and mail is given thorough consideration and we won't hesitate in trying things out if it means better functioning. More importantly we will have a designated member in every team who you can approach so we will work together to find a solution to problems," the star player, who plays for Mumbai City FC in the ISL, added.
"Let's not think of the past but now work together and look out for each other today and in days to come," Chhetri said. The India skipper's call for the players to unite under the FPAI banner assumes significance after Royal Wahingdoh became the latest team to pull of the I-league.
