Clangers win animation prize at children's Baftas

BBC shows The Clangers, Justin Fletcher's Gigglebiz and transgender documentary I Am Leo were all winners at Sunday night's children's Baftas.

Horrible Histories actress Jessica Ransom won best performer for her role as Mary, Queen of Scots.

Paddington was named best film, Katie Morag won best drama, and Minions took the Kids' Vote award.

Stars from the children's entertainment industry gathered at the Roundhouse in London for the ceremony.

I Am Leo, a documentary following a transgender 13-year-old, won the factual category.

Gigglebiz was named best comedy, while the Clangers revival picked up the best pre-school animation award.

Best presenters were Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes for Sam & Mark's Big Christmas Wind Up.

Monty Python star Michael Palin, who narrates The Clangers, said of the awards: "I think they're very joyful, it's about the kids, I think children know a lot more about good television sometimes than the grown-ups do."

The Amazing World of Gumball collected its third Bafta for animation, the sixth for the show overall.

Jocelyn Stevenson, whose credits include Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, Bob the Builder and Pingu, was given a special award,

Channel of the year was won by CBBC for the third time, while Disney's Gravity Falls won the international category.
