Russian dancers mesmerise audience at Wayanad

Dance troupe in state as part of 40th anniversary of Russian Cultural Centre

Wayanad: It was indeed a rare opportunity for the people of Wayanad, to see 15 beautiful dancers on the same dais performing the modern dance or the contemporary dance of Russia popularly known as the vehicle for social and political commentary.

It was as part of the 40th anniversary of the Russian Cultural center, Thiruvananthapuram, a troupe of professional dance artists from Russia reached Wayanad to render their performance after their camp at the capital city.

Stage Pragathi- a cultural forum based in Wayanad with few noted artists as its trustee members initiated to bring the Russian troupe to Wayanad with an intention to promote International art forms in the city.

This theoretical dance form was exhibited by its experts using a wide range of techniques and improvisation from the authentic ballet style.

Talking about the mission of Pragathi, the member Rajagopal Menon said, “Since after the formation of Pragathi one year back, the mission was to promote more artists in cultural sector and bring rare performances to the people of Wayanad and the thousands of tourists here”.

It was for the first time we initiated artists from Russia to perform their style and for last three days these artists camped here for rehearsals, he added.

The program is jointly organsied by District Tourism Promotion Council(DTPC), District Administration, Rotary Club, Hill District club, District bar association, Coffee GROVE restaurant, wind flower resort, Wayanad coffee county and Priyadarshini.
