Seychelles supports Thai bid for UN non-permanent seat |23 November 2015

Seychelles will support Thailand’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan said this after a meeting with special envoy Kobsak Chutikul and a delegation from the Kingdom of Thailand.

The delegation was on an official visit to Seychelles (from November 19-22,2015) to solicit the support of Seychelles for their country’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the UNSC for the term 2017-2018

“We believe that Thailand’s candidature to the United Nations Security Council for the period 2017-2018 is fundamental at this point in time, given that Thailand attaches much importance in the building of a culture of peace. Thailand has been actively participating in international efforts to address global challenges thus it will constructively serve as a bridge-builder among UNSC members and non-UNSC members in order to achieve the common goals of the UN,” said Minister Morgan after the meeting.

On a bilateral level, Seychelles highlighted that the Kingdom of Thailand continuously supports the socio-economic development of the country.

“Seychelles is very pleased with its active relations with the Kingdom of Thailand, indicative of our longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation which were established in 1992 and have grown from strength to strength,” said Minister Morgan.
