She was on her way to pick up her two children from school. While riding near Ramakrishna Ashram in Basavanagudi, she slowed down her two-wheeler to negotiate around a pothole, only for a concrete-mixing truck to knock her off her vehicle.

Girijamma (38), a homemaker from Cottonpet, sustained multiple fractures. She escaped from getting run over as the truck driver applied brakes. Ms. Girijamma is recuperating in hospital, while the truck driver, Doddappa, was arrested by the police.

BBMP Commissioner G. Kumar Naik on Sunday said the pothole at the accident spot was caused by water leakage from a BWSSB pipeline.

“It has been filled and the road levelled,” he said.
