Jhelum arson attacks will be comprehensively probed: Sanaullah

Jhelum: Punjab Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Rana Sanaullah today said that all aspects regarding the incidents of arson of a factory and an Ahmadi place of worship in Jhelum, will be investigated. Sanaullah said that no one will be allowed to take law in their own hands and punishments will be decided by the courts.

The law minister added that all possible measures to keep the law and order situation under control, were taken in a timely manner. The minister's statement comes a day after an enraged mob set an Ahmadi place of worship on fire in Punjab's Jhelum district, and two days after a factory was set on fire in the district late on Friday.

The attacks occurred following allegations of blasphemy leveled against the factory owner and workers, through mosque loudspeakers and rumors. No casualties were reported in the arson attacks. The place of worship was located in Jhelum's Kala Gujran area which was under guard of local police forces. A mob on Saturday managed to break through a police cordon established at the site of the attack to safeguard Ahmadi places of worship, following Friday night's unrest.

As tensions rose, a contingent of the Pakistan Army was called in to assist the local police forces. The situation was brought under control after the arrival of the army contingent, with the mob chanting slogans in favor of the army.
