Police had to be called during the Baroda-Punjab Ranji match here on Monday. The match was stopped briefly following a heated argument between Ambati Raydu and spectators.

Yusuf Pathan came to the rescue of his Baroda teammate before things got out of control.

The incident took place in the 11th over of the Punjab innings. Rayudu ran to the boundary line to collect the ball and suddenly got into an argument with a few spectators standing there. Before things got out of hand, Yusuf, who himself was involved in a similar incident last year, took Rayudu away from the scene.

Witnesses say Rayudu got into confrontation mode after abuses were hurled at him by the public. As a result of this the match had to be halted for 10 minutes. Match referee and other Baroda Cricket Association officials rushed to the spot and calmed the public down with the help of security guards. Later, a police team was called in to ensure the public stayed away from the boundary line.
