In view of a Vigilance report against him in the disproportionate assets case, the State government is all set to approach the Union Ministry of Personnel Affairs, seeking permission to prosecute former PWD Secretary T.O. Sooraj.

Last month, the Vigilance Director had submitted a report to the State government stating that the IAS officer amassed Rs.11.84 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income between 2004 and 2014. The report was based on an investigation by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Kochi unit. The findings of the investigation were submitted to the Vigilance Director in Thiruvananthapuram with a recommendation seeking action against Mr. Sooraj.

During the probe, the Vigilance had found that the assets, located in 14 places, were allegedly bought in the name of the official’s wife and children, which included several muti-storeyed buildings. It was also found that he had spent more than Rs.1 crore towards the MD radiology course of his daughter.
