Around 60 per cent voting was reported in the elections for the executive body of the Provincial Medical and Health Services (PMHS) held across the state today.

In Dehradun district, around 70 per cent voting was reported and of 196 voters around 142 government doctors exercised their right to franchise.

“In all, there are around 850 government doctors who are members of the PMHS and around 600 to 650 have voted,” said Dr NS Khatri, election officer.

While results of the elections will be officially declared on November 25, early leads indicate that Dr Sanjeev Goswami is likely to be elected to the post of president while Dr Naresh Napalchayal looks clear winner of the general secretary post.

For the hotly-contested seat of president, Dr Sanjeev Goswami is pitted against Dr DP Joshi. In a triangular contest for the post of general secretary, Dr Naresh Napalchayal is pitted against Dr Navjeet Bedi and Dr Harender Malik. The elections are keenly watched. Dr BS Jangpangi, chief election officer, said all ballots boxes would be counted at the district chief medical officer’s office. The election results would be announced on November 25.
